“My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.” -Jack Layton.
I know it seems odd that I titled this “the day americans had a choice” but I had to and the above quotation explains why. We had to choose between anger, fear, despair, and love, hope, and optimism. I can’t make a determination of what exactly we all chose because it is such an individual thing that probably changes from day to day.
It’s amazing how anniversary of things hit us so hard. I have an anniversary of something coming up soon that has me shaken but still strong because I have made the choice to embrace the love, hope, and optimism in my life instead of the opposite. No matter what your choice was, we all remember this day. We all weep for the lives lost and the gut wrenching stories of what happened that day. We are all so much more connected than we think and it is amazing how such a tragic situation can remind us of that one hopeful fact.
It’s so moving to me to see things like that especially when you know that each one of those flags represents a life. It’s amazing how quickly the world can change and how the impact is felt evven years after.
